Al be darned

For a moment there on Tuesday, I was ready to declare the Michael Jackson memorial service the perfect tribute.

It was understated; never gaudy, garish or glitzy; never over the top.

The musical performances by Usher, Stevie Wonder, Jermaine Jackson, Mariah Carey and others were sincere and powerful.

The all-star treatments given to "We Are the World" and "Heal the World" were exuberant, even joyous.

The brief but heart-wrenching statement by Jackson's 11-year-old daughter, Paris, was unforgettable and is sure to become the most-rerun video clip from the event.

And the sight of Jackson's casket being wheeled in by his brothers and former Jackson 5 bandmates is an image that will endure for years to come.

But then the Rev. Al Sharpton goes and blows it by saying to Jackson's children, during an otherwise stirring eulogy, that there was "nothing strange about your daddy."

Excuse me, Al? Did you sleep through the last 25 years? In case you did, here are a few highlights of Jackson's life during that time: A best-friend chimp named Bubbles. Sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber. An estimated 25 plastic surgeries, including procedures to lighten his African-American skin color. Living on an estate with an amusement park and a zoo. Sharing his bed with young boys. Two accusations of child molestation - one leading to a reported $20 million settlement, the other to a circus-atmosphere criminal trial. Dangling his infant son over the railing of a hotel balcony. Putting masks on his kids when taking them out in public. And, oh yeah, dying at age 50 after, according to most accounts, years of being addicted to various drugs.

Nothing strange, Al? More like nothing but strange.

Praise the man all you want, Rev. Sharpton. But at least tell the truth.

Why is everyone so shocked at these political figures being dishonest when it has been happening in the Ulster County Clerks Office for over 30 years?

Let's start by Mr. Al Spada (forced) into retirement, becausee he and others were caught selling drivers licence's to Illegal Aliens, a threat to our Homeland Security by the way.

But the man never was arrested etc.?

The current County Clerk Nina Postupak is no better, naming her sister as Chief Deputy Clerk, and then having the nerve to yell and curse, and be little her own employees, playing God, and then there they are at Sunday Mass at St. Joseph's?

It is caalled white collar organized crime my friends, wake up to the facts and get these people out of office ASAP.

I am just reading the comment from Mikey and am in awe that this issue was never properly addressed. You quickly went to another Al in your blog. Am I missing something?
I too, am among those who wonder why no arrests were made; whatever happened to Brian Donnelly, who it seems took the 'rap' and with very weak credentials and along with a weak background in our legal system, etc. (simple 101 on honesty and integrity in government wasn't even in place) and how did Nina Postupak get the appointment when Al Spada had to resign rather quickly? Was it based upon her lack of knowledge and naivete? Perhaps she really had no idea of what was going on. That really makes me wonder now as she is up for re-election. Is this naivete her best qualification and is she willing to go along with the 'good old boys' and not blow the whistle when corruption lurks within an government office?
It was just a few weeks ago that Nina Postupak was squealing about the increase in MV rates. Was it ever resolved that there are numerous illegal aliens driving around with illegal licenses that were issued from the Ulster Co DMV? You know what happens when you have an accident with an unlicensed driver in NYS. What's going on here?
Fill us in on just what occurred to make Al Spada retire and what happened to Brian Donnelly? We all know what happened to Nina - but now with election coming up, what will happen to Ulster County??
